A South Korean news site ETNews said, “It is expected that the OLED material for next-generation iPhones will also be coming from South Korean display manufacturers. It is understood that Samsung Display and LG Display will supply their OLED displays to Apple for its new iPhone model that is expected to be released in the fall of 2020. While there is a high chance that BOE, which had drawn many interests, will suffer a sad defeat, South Korean display manufacturers will continue to enjoy being the sole OLED suppliers of Apple. This news confirms once again that South Korea is far ahead of China when it comes to mobile display.” This means that Apple is looking for better display technology available through Samsung Display for its new phones, which are predicted to be released in fall 2020. Rumours also suggest that Apple is working on a 5G network compatible phone that might be launched next year. Samsung’s on-cell OLED panel does not need a separate film, leading to a thinner display and reduced production prices. Because of the advantage of the on-cell touch OLED panel along with the fact that Samsung Display is the only company in the world who can mass produce the on-cell touch OLED panels, has brought Apple to them for 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch OLED panels. Meanwhile, 6.1-inch OLED panels will be supplied by both Samsung Displays and LG as 6.1-inch OLED panel will be based on film touch method instead of the on-touch OLED.
