We should point out that the Data Transfer Project is an open-source project that is aimed at simplifying the process of data transfer from one service to the other. It will mostly be comprised of back-end coding to ensure compatibility among various tools of exporting data like Google Takeout and Facebook’s ‘Access Your Information tool’. As of now, these tools primarily let you download data directly to a hard drive. However, the project now aims to take it a step further by allowing the data to be ported directly to another service. With this, you will be able to send all the photos from your pictures on Facebook to your Google Photos account without having to worry about too many steps to be followed or even the possibility of a data leak. If executed, the project will introduce methods of data transfer that surely will be useful for one and all.
Last summer, technology giants like Google, Twitter and Facebook had signed up for the project. The project also has a GitHub page that has all the updates about and the page shows that it is still a work in progress. The official website of the project says, “We are continually making improvements that might cause things to break occasionally. So as you are trying things please use it with caution and expect some hiccups.” Till now, most of that work has been on the back end. However, the project may also have a number of consumer-facing products that will be joining in soon. In a statement, Google has also spoken about some new user-facing projects that will be out in the next few months.
